How to Get Multiple Characters in the Same Scene in Midjourney

More than two months ago, on April 18th, the first edition of The Rabbit Hole was posted. And at the time, all eyes were on Tucker Carlson’s interview with Elon Musk. So we wanted to depict that interview with Midjourney for the thumbnail, but we failed to get two characters that resembled Elon Musk and Tucker Carlson in the same image. You could only get one of them, and on the other, a resemblance of the same character. Only Elon, or only Tucker.

With Midjourney V5.2, there’s a way to make sure you get two distinct characters into your designs. Here’s how:

1. Open Midjourney and prompt the first character. For example:

/imagine a vintage-style portrait photo of Nikola Tesla 

2. Upscale the image you like the most.

3. Click on the “Custom Zoom” button, then edit the prompt to add the second character you want into the scene. You may add other details into the prompt. For example:

a vintage-style photo of Nikola Tesla and Jimi Hendrix in a recording studio --ar 16:9 

4. It’s done! You got your second character into the design. Even with some far-off combinations, you can yield decent results.

5. Upscale the image you like the most and save it!

6. You may also want to keep editing with Zoom Out, further Custom Zooms, and the new “Vary” options.
